Essay
Wiz Kalifa and 2 chainz - We Own It.
The genre of this song is rap but does partly have some singing involved, this is a conventional genre for the intertexual reference 'Fast and Furious 6'. Which were released at the same time as the film had been released May 17 2013.
The Theme of the music video is car racing relating to it's intertexual reference, Furious 6. I know this because of the moving images of the intertexual reference are visual in the music video.
The song has many relations between the lyrics and visuals as part of the moving images of fast and furious are shown as part of the music video, showing the purpose of the music video and reference clearly.
An example of the visuals and lyrics in the song quotes 'Ride or die' as in the film Dominic Toretto payed as Vin Diesel the actor who'm quotes that line in the duration of the film of Fast and Furious 6.
The relation of the Music and visuals are very compatible with each other as the beats are in time with the visuals made very conventional for action film. The beats are fast which clearly connotes fast style, 'Fast and furious 6'.
During the music video they are many close ups of the artist, former rappers 2 Chainz and Wiz Kalifia, But during the music video they are in another setting/location, which makes it look like there no apart of it.
This music video is mainly performance based as the lyrics are based upon the performance of Furious 6 which moving images are shown, however it is also narrative based because the song is all based on the structure and plot of furious 6. Rapping and singing about the themes of loyalty, family, money, bravery and risks.
How the edits have made it look like a flash back for when the silent moving images are shown, used in a conventional manor.

Music video essay on Chris Cunningham
Chris Cunningham
The purpose of the Chris Cunningham music videos, gives an alternative entertainment to the audience, for example in come to daddy as I explained below in more detail the content of the video is disturbing in the way that it combined children's body's with a adults heads but also there are other images which are disturbing. It shows us Chris Cunningham's strengths and lets the audience to get to know the director and what he could do creatively.
In the industry music videos are used to market the song to sell records to make money. Like an advertisement for himself and his work, which will and have other record companies being interested in him and hiring him. Think of it as a promotional tool to get commissioned going through the marketing process. It also gives Cunningham a chance to share his views on various issues and forces us to think about them.
Another purpose is to show case and promote the artist, band and the director will became better known to the music industry it will also allow the band to get closer to fans. In all three videos the artist appears as a character and it gives us a chance to see them in a different way.
With film makers, it expresses a creative idea. You'll have to rely on other people to do their jobs. It'll be a way of making money doing something you are interested in, you'll have a portfolio which will allow you to show of your strengths. Chris Cunningham will be memorable only because he makes creative expressing on something that's not been done before for example Window licker, there's not a music video like it. Expressing his perspective such as he don't agree men should have a sense of 'perverting' women, just because there females.
By making a video you might have a message to express a point of view which may impact on other peoples perspectives such as expressing morals and political points such as Bjork all is full of love. In this music video Cunningham is expressing that we are all the same and he does this by using two females Robots and who are in love with each other. He allows us to accept different types of sexuality.
The three music videos I have chosen are by Chris Cunningham. I will be discussing Come to daddy and Window licker (Aphex Twin) and All is full of love (Bjork).
For generations, the public has always enjoyed the art of music... Recently, to make their songs more appealing, artists are creating videos of their song that gnereally depicts a story. In this case Chris Cunningham has a different approach towards music video's. He is known for his cutting edge, dark, mesmerising and often disturbing video's which uses a concept rather than a narrative, that are fragments of narrative based but not really a beginning, middle and end.
I have explored the similarities between themes and have identified the style of the director, which is quite disturbing and unconventional.
Cunningham Won many awards and became quiet successful for his unique selling points, special effects. This is to his advantage as he uses manipulated images that depicts a point of view, shown in a unconventional way, aiming to get the audience to look at a manipulated image to look it another way as you would do in a reality situation. For example 'women' from a mans perspective who feel attracted to the opposite sex to look at women In a different way, maybe more of a slightly respectful way. This is known to be the moral message of the project.

In the video All is full of love (Bjork), Cunningham has an unconventional way to explore and express sexuality. As you can see there are two robots(women) expressing love with each other. This has a moral message that no matter who or what you are, We are all human. In this case he uses robots to talk about lesbianism. One of the ways he shows this is by giving the robots an identity through giving them human faces. The faces are both the singer Bjork, which is very strange. This is very unconventional and unexpected.
The main colours used in the video are basic primary colours, Black and white. The lighting is quite bright in parts are completely black, This could connote a saying when you see things just as 'black and white' therefore blinded by emotions of others, teaching the audience a lesson. The pace of the video is slow which fits the theme of the music which is very calming.
Window licker also has similarities with the Bjork video. For example it is yet again very unconventional. In this music video women have manipulated faces just like in All is full of love but this time the stunning women faces had transformed changing there beauty to completely ugly. Just like all is full of love this video has also got a moral message - that men who have a desires about women, to attempt to make men look at women different way, more respectful maybe? Also teaching the audience a lesson that men would not look at women the same way if they had undesirable features. Window licker was a true beginning of Cunningham's career. The colours are bright, filled with a mixture of colours conventional for a theme where women stand out the most, The lighting was done in the day time so its all very bright.
Yet again as you can see Come to daddy has manipulated imagery connoting everyday average children, who have faces of men. This puts them in a sort of uncomfortable situation which is very unconventional.

Yet again as you can see Come to daddy has manipulated imagery connoting everyday average children, who have faces of men. This puts them in a sort of uncomfortable situation which is very unconventional.
The theme of this is purposely disturbing and dull to express the concept. This theme of transformation is disturbing similar to Window licker and the children that gives of a monstrous impression.
The encouraging 'Daddy' that apears out of the television denoting media to play a big role in children's lives today. Influencing and encouraging them to be a certain way, to act older then they are, this is called a mild indoctrination. The example of this is shown when the face is on the television screaming a lot of repetition 'I want your sole' in the first sequences then as the sequence goes forward a group of young bodies with face features of old men; causing trouble, smashing things, in another words being disrespectful.
To back my quote up is to give an example of how media can effect a young persons life in reality. A form of media such as Internet provides access to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and sites where people can sigh up and share their personnel footage with other members via phone, desk web camera or any other electronic devices. Children(In the music video) these days have far to much access on their devices, so they can sign up allowing videos to be uploaded to their newsfeed. Therefore can discriminate and scare different religions, Animal cruelty, Unsafe driving, Drinking severely, Fighting, Gangs and Drugs. This can be an encouragement in the up bringing of young peoples lives.
They all have similarities in by being mainly concept based however they all do have a silent narrative with a meaning behind it.
The difference between them all is the message, name, and the genre such as Bjork genre is robots with a reference of IRobot. Window licker with woman half naked, with ugly faces yet still good looking in the eyes of the characters in the music video. And come to daddy is young children with older facials, being naughty.
Each video has similarities of a relationship with the lyrics and visuals, except isn't really the main focus in the production such as Come to daddy, 'I want your sole' the screen figure had mimed those lyrics connecting them together to look like that's his perspective.
The camera work for All if full of love is stationary, this is because the meaning is very simple therefore the costume of robots work well because the robots signify a lesbian human being who are usually afraid to be judged.
For the music video window licker the camera work is different as it has a multi cam showing from different angels to show the important elements of the music video.
The pace of this music video is essential. Is very fast and loud it works well with the visuals of when the children are moving and sound effects when things smash. It's to get the audience attention. The hand held camera shakes as they run and smash up the set, its works well in favour to get the message across doing so fits in the dramatic situation getting the audience to feel like their in the scene watching it from distance.

The camera work for each music video fits in with the genre. Bjork and window licker have similarities that implies sexualised display. This is shown by the bright colours, dancing and costumes.
For example window licker regardless of the faces, the women have costumes that indicated awareness of sexualised display, where as Bjork has costumes of robots making love which also shows awareness of sexualised display. This is because of multiple of reasons such as to grab attention and to simplify and identify for the audience's purposes on why it had been presented in the production. The obvious reason is to teach those a lesson that don't respect others decisions. In that respect come to daddy is different compared to them two.
The purpose for music videos Is that a short film integrating a song and imagery produced for promotional or artistic purposes, such as entertainment, a creative expression or moral.
In my opinion I appreciate what he has done to achieve, I like the way he is unconventional compared to other music directors. my expression was a bit shocked. I think he had made a great success at promoting him self, making the weird unconventional way to work. Putting the unnecessary with the necessary fits the whole dark, mysterious, outrageous themes of music tracks, identifying his style and conventions.
