FMP Development
1st Idea - Documentary piece
Factual, figures and define the cause of obsessive drinking in UK
How they manage to control the extensive spending money and what they do to earn to waste it on drinking.
Strengths - Shows the impact of obsessive drinking.
Weaknesses - May not find anyone at the worst of times.
opportunities - help people understand
threats - could capture something that person wouldn't want shown.
Demographic - teenagers to mid adults, elderly wouldn't agree with obsessive drinking as they are from different generation and believe in good morals.
This website of research clearly shows a problem in the UK : https://www.alcoholconcern.org.uk/help-and-advice/statistics-on-alcohol/
My influence is experience when I go out I see it happening but never would I go as far as people I've seen.
focus group of young quote from the above website :
Every year in the UK, more than 10,000 fines for being drunk and disorderly are issued to young people aged 16 to 19
Almost half of young people excluded from school in the UK are regular drinkers
Just 12% of 11 to 15-year olds said they had drunk alcohol in the previous week in 2011 – down from 26% a decade earlier
2nd idea - Promotion Video and Mayhem night club
Promote a nightclub
Strengths - Good images, behind DJ and in VIP Booths etc.
Weaknesses - Timing of the night.
Opportunities - with some great images I know I can get.
Threats - other people getting in way while filming a specific shot.
Demographic - Club lovers, non club lovers who might want to join.
This website clearly shows a marketing space for Club goers :
http://www.ibisworld.co.uk/market-research/nightclubs.html
percentages show the annual growth that has developed over years and the promotion piece I might find easier the 1st and 3rd idea, so this idea is what I am looking to make for my FMP
3rd Idea - Fashion co-operate video
Strengths - Helps gain confidents with girls
Weaknesses - Money
opportunities - To get creative, with my own sense of knowledge and enjoyment
threats - It may not be enjoyable to watch
Demographic - Shop lovers of all ages, only girls and women and low self esteem girls who may want to change but don't know how to. This demographic is going to be in the style of an 18 age making it sensible, cool and colours. This is why:
Quote from link below : More than 90 percent of girls – 15 to 17 years – want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance, with body weight ranking the highest.
15 - 17 want to make that change, making it for 18 will help them grow maturity and maybe even give them the conventional cool influences now - a - days.
This website shows why girls have low self esteem due to the appearance or want to improve themselves :
http://www.heartofleadership.org/statistics-on-body-image-self-esteem-parental-influence/
Way I see it what better way to help them is by creating a co-operate video to help them make a change and show them what they can do to help them selves or others then need to be.

skills evaluation
An evaluation of different kind of brief i have worked on are music video, single camera drama, tv advert and multi camera News show i worked with Maddie Govier on most of my productions. We both work really well together have come up with some good ideas together. Multi Camera News show i was in a team and i was acting director of the production my team members were Maddie, Frankie and Ellis. The team worked better then expected and the result of the show was really good. My communication skills have definitely improved over my time here and people done really well to follow instructions.
The video formates i use and find is best is HD 1920 X 1080 i used this because i find HD has the best captured image and very good quality.
The video formates i use and find is best is HD 1920 X 1080 i used this because i find HD has the best captured image and very good quality.
How much information was given for each brief and how was it presented to you?
- Single Camera Drama - we were asked to build up our ideas by doing an Ideas generation, pre production, production and post production and to evaluate our work after production.
- multi camera News Show - We were asked to work in a group, all had to create our own piece of work to contribute to our show. I done idea generation making up mood boards, helping script and on set design etc.
How useful/helpful was this information?
- Single Camera Drama - The information was helpful as were given sheet to work on, questions of the pre production so wasn't started from scratch. So that made it a whole lot easier.Multi Camera News Show- working in a committed team makes it a lot easier as you didn't have to worry about everything, pre production was again easy and every body done what they needed to.
Did it lead to any specific successes?
- improved communication skills
- Team work
- Well done production
2. How good a communicator are you?
- On a professional level i have done so working at the NHS which obviously your tune changes, however working on a production set is a lot stressful then people can imagine and instead of talking and interpreting what people tell you can lead to miss led comuniaction and end up shouting.
- At first on multi camera i may have took a little time to get used to but at the end of it i was praised on my communication skills improving and everybody work well and the production went smoothly
What styles and strategies of communication and negotiation have you adopted for each of your briefs?
- Emails, Phone calls and Call Sheets and simple text messages for meeting arrangements. Each briefs are similar.
What was the impact of each of these?
- Communication worked well, people adapted their roles firmly as so did i. People on set were actin professional, there were no faults of communication as me and maddie done well keeping to schedule and working out days we could and couldn't do.
How confident are you dealing with clients?
- I am a confident person i have other experience out side the media course, and if i feel strongly about the subject and i know i can handle it i will be straight to the point and honest.
3. Importing and editing footage?
- I prefer to use SD as it allot quicker and simpler. Importing footage may have had a few down points as me and maddie had trouble trying to upload for various of reasons.
What are the best formats to shoot on and how do you set up a project to match it?
- I use Canon 600D as it’s something im used to and I think the best format it HD which is 1920 x 1080. I once used hand held which i found pretty easy and i liked the amount of effects and options on it.
What would happen if you got these settings wrong?
- You might have to re-shoot your footage or you would have to re-do the set up for your project, along with pre production etc.
What happens when you compress footage? Why would you do this?
- compressing footage looses quality, you would do this for quick timing. however if you would rather wait longer which may be recommended, you'll have better quality and I'm sure people would rather better quality and wait longer then not.
What do you need to consider when exporting video?
- sometimes need to consider how much memory space it takes up as if you don’t compress your file then it would usually take up a lot of space, which i have experience with not enough memory.
4. How good are you at production?
- Production is what i prefer, being on active side of it.
How are you at shooting?
- I think i’m good at shooting, sometimes watching other peoples videos and i look how they down theirs i think how i would do it differently which may improve the film, even my own production, but lack of time is very compressed as we couldn't go back and recreate that shot, so in future with more time and more resources i could improve my shooting a lot more.
How are you at editing?
- Im OK at editing, i do enjoy it on Final Cut and only just got the hang of Special effects I think there is definitely room for improvement on my editing skills.
Give specific examples. Did the type of brief or your understanding of technology impact on this project?
- briefs definitely helped my work and understanding of technology that is needed, when things get complicated brief definitely help me by making is clear of what it is I actually need to do, helps me organise and structure my work. Technology can be complicated when your confused but no only briefs but teachers and college friends are always there to support me and each other.
What is the project you think represents your best work?
- Multi camera drama - During the production there were ups and downs but working effectively in a team we created a good atmosphere with onset and out set production.
What about the worst?
- Corporate Video - if I could I'd definitely change the production as a whole, different client, different area, different camera and maybe more time as I would say I definitely cut my self short with this.

Movie: Saw II
Pre- or post viewing conditions: In a room with a group full of people, pillow in my hand waiting and ready as i'll ever be.
What happened before: Understanding what type of film this is, I'm can't watch gory films, which make me feel sick to my stomach.
After I saw the movie: I promised myself i'd never watch any films like this again,
The conditions of reception was in a medium sized room, twisted gripping horror movie grabbed everybody's attention and was hardly any space. Forcing the Tv to be watched.
I have a big fear of needles, completely terrified of them.. when taking heroin or anything like that on screen it makes me feel dizzy almost like I'm imagining the effects being passed on to me.
Movie: Human centipede.
This is round the time it came out, no intentions of watching the full movie however watched 1 minuet of this film, i thought it was absolutely disgusting. To the point it effects me and actually made me throw up when mentioned by a school pal.
Pre- or post viewing conditions: In a room with a group full of people.
GORYS EFFECTS ME THE MOST, WHATEVER THE CONDITIONS OF VIEWING IT'LL NEVER DEFUSE MY THOUGHTS OF IT.

Video Editing Presentation.
Video Editing
In this essay I will be
discussing the history of editors and their techniques. I will also compare
their differences and how the history of editors became an inspiration on
technology today. The editors I will be
discussing are Lumiere Brothers and Sergei Eisenstein and a recent film maker, by comparing their techniques and showing you how they done it.
Video Editing is a post-production stage in a production.
Sergei Eisenstein 1998 believed
in a Soviet Montage theory which is a editing method of approach to
understanding and creating cinema that relies upon editing, ‘changed the face
of cinema forever’ became a great influence on the new generation of editors. Eisenstein
Pioneered the Soviet Montage theory, as he saw montage editing as a contrast of
mainstream continuity editing grouping collective series of images communicating
certain meanings. Sergei's unique technique is where the shots with be of one thing then other, almost changing the meaning just by selecting the next shot. Video Editing is a post-production stage in a production.
The Lumiere Brothers, Auguste born 1862, Louis born 1864, Editors who created the first moving images by inventing the first cinematograph, they were able to connect the projector to the printer enabling a bigger audience to watch it at the same time as they were connected at the same time. Where as before only one individual would be able to watch it when the kinetograph was the big camera, the Kinetograph was the initial idea which the Lumiere Brothers got off them, the kinetograph was much bigger and you could only watch the film if you were filming it, the Cinematograph was much lighter and the projector and printer were connecting to the camera.
The differences between these great inspirational editors is that they had different ideas about making a great film however, Sergei’s Soviet montage theory is by placing images on top of another. Eisenstein referred to his editing as "dialectical montage" because it aimed to expose the essential contradictions of existence and the political order.
On the other hand the Lumiere Brothers had another approach by cinematographe the three-in-one device which were able to record , develop and project motion pictures. It is known the difference on how they use editing techniques is that the Lumiere brothers made ‘L’Arrroseur Arrose’ were the first film comedy, to portray a fictional story. They done this by inventing the first cinematograph, As the Soviet Theory, Sergei relied on were more of a political purpose, which theoretically speaking, is a type of propaganda.
In our short film the Untold in one of the last scenes we used the Lumiere Brothers technique were we all were in front of the camera, leaving the camera to continue to roll.
EXAMPLE:
With this example I'm going to compare to the lumier brothers is my short film The Untold. Why I chose this is because the technique filming this has similarities to the Lumier Brothers technique by editing the shots in a sequence forming a story, Narrative based.
How I edit is more similar to the Lumiere Brothers by sequencing images together in order to make a comedy, sad, thriller rather than a political aspect however, will devote my time to make an inspirational movie to others. Obviously in todays technology is far different from a projector and physically editing but doing it on Final Cut Pro software, adding sounds a lot easier by downloading them.
On the other hand Sergei Eisenstein uses his technique manipulating the audience, by their thoughts and reactions.
The best way to help readers understand how Sergei successfully achieved what he were trying to do, creating a great impact on today's technique on filming is showing you what I mean.
From Sergei Perspective this would be the main image, the way the Sergei Eisenstein will generate different meanings from different shots put together.
Her facial expression claims to be looking at an object, her eyes are fierce and she is quite slim. I found this on Google, So this is my example of his technique of montage.
So you see the picture above, now look at the 1st picture below.
What do you think she is thinking?
My thoughts were she might be looking at these chocolates, as she is tempted however has an issue of a weight problem, maybe?
The women's facial expression, almost changes when you see this as the next shot. I chose this picture because we (I) have changed what we think she feels.
After this next shot this could show that the women feels the urn to not want to be here no more. Feeling closed up out of sight and out of mind to the rest of the world.
Opinions will continue to change in order of the shots.
The next shot of Mother and Daughter, may indicate the women is jealous or even possible can't have children. Story of this relating to Eastenders soap Ronnie Mitchel after she steals Cats baby.
The expression of what we think, has changed automatically from being desperate for chocolate but wants to keep her figure, A rope to feeling closed up and generally wants to end life, Mother and daughter indicating she wishes she were in her position.
Might be all sad but what about if this was the next shot... Would you still have the same opinion on her facial expression?
This next shot indicates a happy expression, feeling shy, almost 'Love at first sight' This is a great example to show the different impact the next shot has. This shot gives the impression that she is into the man. The women indicates she almost smiling with her eyes, glistening at the hot man on the beach. Who wouldn't?
The purpose of this technique is that the audience's opinions change without any real now-a-days special effects. This is simply the audience being silently manipulated with out any real effort apart from it just being the next shot of the montage. Effortless but effective, it has became a huge impact on todays technique.
An example of this technique is

Sight and Sound, Power point and Essay speech
Sight
and Sound Presentation
I will be
discussing Green Street, Big momma’s House 1 and Haunting in Connecticut 2.
I will first discuss Green street
Independent drama, Football hooligans in England, Directed by Lexi Alexander
2005 a 2.07 clip from Youtube.
·
Sight Codes and Conventions
The Sight Codes
and Conventions of Green Street are based on the conventions of crime and drama
genre. Depending on the cultural context of the film based around the football
firms in England. Stereotype includes alcohol, illegal substances, weapons,
murders, relationships, gangs, turf wars and social groups and social group rivalries.
This covers a
wide spread of codes and conventions this is where most films for example Green
Street following the conventions of their social group. Conventions following
the casual drinks on all occasions but will conventional stay within their
social group then mix with others. The main stereotypes associated with Green
Street which covers all of the above is conventionally followed by Football
Factory starring Danny Dyer which both is a case study of football violence and
male culture which results to crime.
Evidentially
football violence and alcohol is seen throughout Green Street and Football
Factory. In Green Street the alcohol conventions start when they have their
first drink at the pub where everyone meets and seems like they all get on
fine, from then on Yankee enjoyed him and wanted to continue in being a part of
the firm. The illegal substance is shown when the Van-Holden takes a
considerate amount of cocaine at the end of when Matt finally gets proven
innocent. The Weapons is presented to the audience with a big finale when the
two firms go head to head with weapons such as bats, poles, chains which leads
to a murder when things get to far and the brother dies for the major in
revenge. Relationships are changing in every scene for example: Yankee gets
closer to the social group, Bother, Pete’s right hand man pushes himself
outside the group gaining an attitude and rebellious emotions towards Pete. An
example of this is shown when after the first game Pete and Yankee go
elsewhere, then arrive back at the pub not long after, Bother openly says ‘I’m starting to wonder about you two, if I
didn’t know any better I’d say you were a couple of gay boys’.
·
Sound Code and conventions
The surroundings are specific;
every shot has a meaning including sound, which can be very important in film.
Sound enhances the actions from objects in a horror movie or in this clip,
physically by actors.
Sound can verify the space that the
protagonist has, for example in the clip Matt Buckner, who is the new arrival
the cam is in the view point of him as the protagonist. The character has not
got a lot of space, however if you wasn’t looking at the film you would know
because of the environment sound. I think that sound is done by Stereo because
I know audio speakers have natural hearing that come from different areas at
once.
I think that the sound of the men singing the football song and
the dialogue have used three different types of sound methods. The song I think
is recorded by Live sounds used by a boom mike. 14 seconds into the clip
Dialogue begins and I think this has been added in because as the guy who
speaks first is actually louder than the men singing/shouting. This method is
called ADR adding it in the post production from an audio studio. However I can
definitely conclude that this specific scene uses Ambience sound throughout to
enhance the purpose of this scene. West Ham United football club is every man’s
common hobby in the pub, connecting as a unit of football fans/hooligans.
Ambience also represents the character as a whole for example, as the others
who surround him were more in their comfort zone than he was. I think this
because the sound is not focused on him anymore, its focused on the fact he
isn’t jumping about and he remains laid back with his new crowd. Creating a
realisation of what the protagonist wants which brings us back and relates to
the plot of which he may lose what he wants and gets what he needs.

- READ FROM SLIDE 3
·
ORDER Of the Narrative structure
START: He is soft, calming and a push over. This is because he moves to
London after being kicked out of Harwood University of alleged drug dealing.
Knowing his house mate known as a Van-holden, who were a Drug user planted in
his belongings.
MIDDLE: He grows stronger, learning
new ways to find himself. He comes to a realization there is a world out of
journalism This is because when he moved long before gets sucked into the
hardcore world of booze, balls and violence with London’s toughest football
film known as The Green Street Elite.
END: When realizes things seem to get tough, Matt urges himself to tag
along and fight. When comes to the near end chain of event, set in motion that
threatens to destroy everything he holds dearly due to The fault of Matts
absence of his sister, pushes her to attempt to be a hero and save matt when
this results to Major losing his brother by distracting Tommy Hatcher heading
towards the sister as himself as bait.
·
NARRATIVE PRESENTED TO A VIEWER:
Narrative is based on the protagonist wants and needs, described as
structural framework of a character by the order controlled by his ambitions.
Order of which is presented to the viewer purposely to create an image. *ON POWERPOINT*
START WANTS: He
Wants to be a Journalist, however is afraid of the losing his career, with no
back bone. vanholden, whose name has a good reputation in relation of
journalism takes advantage.
START NEEDS: A
Father who understands, when in the past his father were so intent and focused
on his career more than his son. I know this because he admits it by confiding
in his sister as to why he hasn't told his father he'd been kicked out of
Harvood by being accused of possession of illegal substance known as cocaine.
MIDDLE WANTS: The new character of the Yankee Want’s to find
himself, 'growing stronger' he says. To let go of the uptight under pressure of
becoming a journalist. The thrill of feeling untouchable grew on him.
MIDDLE NEEDS: He
needs support at home, He moves out when starting to get friendly with Head boy
also known as major’s brother, major who is his brother in law of the west ham
firm. On the other hand his father who takes him to the Journalist building,
thinking he can win over his son's emotion towards him. 'you think by taking
me to the News building that, you think everything is going to be ok?!' he
says.
·
NARRATIVE
THEORIE
Tzvetan Todorov
Follows conventions of basic
structure Equilibrium where everything is neutral followed by a disruption to
do with the characters social group, when near end protagonist Matt realizes
there’s problem trying to restore his part in the social group. Of which he
thinks he needs them, when forced out later on this disruption is resolves with
a resolution at the end for the protagonist as such not the person who died
however left with a new equilibrium balancing good and bad out because matts
resolution is getting his family back and restoring his innocence.
·
NARRATAVIE TEXT STRUCTURES ARE THE PLOT AND SETTING
SETTING - How it
changes by the wants and needs, Plot changes setting by the yankee putting
himself in danger.
START: At the start the settings were
at a university, showing the audience his capability and achievement. He is
forced to move to his sister’s house and within a day he urges to move out into
sleeves because after the day out to the pub and football game he enjoyed the
environment including the fight he were involved with.
MIDDLE: Setting changes from the start to continuous drinking in the pub and
hanging out with Steve, Matt realizes he must lie to Pete and the hooligans of
what he were studying 'history' however Steve and the Major was already aware
that his dad were a journalist.
END: Setting changes from the middle to the end when things get serious.
Starting by the scene of the pub when the rivalry attack from Mill wall and the
head boy stabs the major in the neck with a glass bottle. He is rushed to
hospital and Brother Steve decides to settle the score by arranging a fight.
Green Street is a linear production however is set as a time period based
on true events directed by Lexi Alexander, based on her own experience in her
brother's firm.
·
How Camera, Mise en Scene, Lighting and Slow motion is
used in the film.
I now will be discussing Big Momma and
Haunting in Connecticut two about the relationship of sound and picture.
Sound and image
experience
The sounds
being experienced are home devices using ambient and Foley sounds of every day
little sound you would hear. This is important because a comedy drama you must
introduce the lifestyle. An example of this is when Malcolm who is undercover
impersonating as Big Momma in the kitchen cooking a lovely breakfast for the
family. Pots, pans, meat sizzling and the oil he pours on to the pan. The sound
enhances the actions of the character, impacting on the relationship between
sound and vision compliments each other creating a realism effect.
Sound and Image
experience
The sounds are
being experienced as cinema devices by diegetic sounds to enhance the
suspension. The impact of the relationship between sound and vision is
important; in order to make a horror movie you must play with emotions. Whether
it'll be an sympathetic, blood rushing emotion. An example of this is when the
Station master comes towards the mother in the secret room. This impacts on the
emotions make you feel the urge to help the venerable women.

A Multi-Camera production is a method of film making, where 3-4 cameras are positions around the set. Multi Cam is used for professional standards, using a tripod for the still shot. Multi Cameras can use Cannon 600D, Sony Z5 or Sony Z1 etc.
The main purpose for multi cam is that doesn't the production doesn't involve many movements for example Bowling for columbine or Louis and the Nazis are single cam which do involve a lot of moment hence why they use a single camera technique, so they are not restricted in the shots.
On the other hand Multi-Camera productions mainly focus on the same thing, I wouldn't necessarily say they focus on the same thing the whole time. Multi-Camera productions refers to Jeremy Kyle Show, Steve Wilko's show or Mr's Browns Boys, X-factor. I'll be discussing Jeremy Kyle show and the reason being, as I pointed out they wouldn't necessarily stay focused on the same thing the whole time is because Jeremy's guest some times will walk of to back stage after being exposed or embarrassed to be in front of the audience.
The advantages of a Multi Camera technique is that all aspects are caught by the different angles, to catch the best moments of all. With great help of the Vision Mixer the Production is able to counter the emotions, reactions and expressions creating a reality of every day life. It can give the audience the visual of different perspectives of the characters. Multi-Cam is prepared for the shot and helps the pace of the live TV at a flow. A single hand held would be a lot difficult to continue with a consistent flow. Multi cam will have a tripod or each camera operator, a dolly if needed to pan across stage or for any other reason. Tri-pod will be useful for a steady shot as single cam are sometimes hand held so it'll be shaky. Sound will usually be separate from the multi-cam usually from a clip mike, boom mike or microphone.
The disadvantage is it gives less control over the shots choices, but works more effectively Commonly used for sports, games, news programs, soap operas, talk shows, and other sitcoms.
The example of this is shown on Jeremy Kyle set where the 3 cameras are stationed just before the live audience from three different angles. The cameras are in position so when Jeremy introduces the show at the beginning he will look directly to the camera in front.
The shots are precisely used for none movements, apart from the guest entrance and Jeremy himself.

Kitchen Shot, from a different camera.
Multi Cam is also used on X-Factor however has a slightly different areas of where the cameras are set.

The cameras are not only set near the stage but almost above the audience and the walks,
creating a live entertainment show on TV.
They use this for slightly different purposes, because as its entertainment the audience is very important, with out an audience to watch X-factor, there is no show! So they show the whole room in order to show the popularity impact X-factor has.
The history of the multi-camera techinques dates back to Honeymooners multi camera techniques used for silent films, which sound was uneditable due to the lack of technology. Inspired by The Queens Messanger first drama, which then on the BBC had found multi camera techinques which has worked successfully.
